I now introduce you to Ben Potter, the Founder of UK ELiquid, and partner of EcigWizard!

TUC: How long have you been vaping?
Ben: It’s been around a year and a half to two years since I first tried an electronic cigarette, but you know, it’s been such a rollercoaster ride of fun, I can’t actually remember for sure!
TUC: What was your very first e-cigarette?
Ben: My first Ecig was what seems like something from the 90’s in comparison to what we have available now. A standard 510 kit with a 180 Mah battery and the horrible cartos with the absorbent wool material. Brings back memories of big mouthfuls of burnt cloth! Eww!
TUC: Who or what do you believe has had the most influence on you in the vaping community, and why?
Ben: Without a doubt it’s got to be Scott ( Igetcha69), Purely because I stumbled upon one of his YouTube videos by accident. I had never heard of electronic cigarettes before then, so I have him to thank for getting me started!
TUC: What would you say is your all time favorite movie, and why?
Ben: Hmmm, its got to be Bambi, he’s so cute!!
TUC: What are some of your favorite foods?
Ben: I love a BBQ, throw some shrimps on there with a nice bit of steak and I can assure you, I’m your new best friend!
TUC: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Ben: I love the occasional trip the moon to play golf, it’s so peaceful! Aside from that I do have a heavy interest in Motorsport. More the doing than the watching, though.
TUC: Which ONE word do you feel best describes you?
Ben: Spontaneous. Those that know me well enough will tell you that I very rarely think things through. For example, renting a flat before I had even seen a picture of it, let alone viewing it and randomly deciding that I was going to travel 10,000 miles across Europe into Mongolia to name but a few!
TUC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?
Ben: Probably a little older, I may even have wisdom teeth by then!
TUC: What flavor e-liquid are you vaping right now?
Ben: One of my all time favorites, Vermillion River Florida Citrus Explosion. It’s one of the few flavours that really gives me the “WOW! That tastes good” effect. It’s extremely refreshing as well, can’t wait to vape on it in the summer with a nice glass of something *hick* alcoholic.
TUC: What e-cigarette, or mod are you vaping right now?
Ben: Right now my hands are wrapped round the Groove, a bottom fed 18650 mod. Many in the office have tried to remove it from my grasp and failed!
TUC: If you could live anywhere in the World, where would it be, and why?
Ben: The White House would be pretty cool although, I would probably give it a splash of colour.
TUC: What was the driving force behind the launch of your business?
Ben: As a child I had tried many, many business endeavours. Some pretty good, some really rubbish! Although, I was probably the richest kid at school because of it.
After one of my most spectacular business failures, I sort of gave up, joined the Army and forgot the dream.
It wasn’t until I tried an electronic cigarette and realised that it was a young market that would definitely grow that I started doing some research.
I initially invested £500 and many, many sleepless nights.
Fast forward one year and we have 12 employees and a 10,000 sq ft warehouse. It’s surpassed all my expectations, and still growing!
TUC: What do you feel was your biggest challenge when first starting your business?
Ben: The biggest challenge was definitely sourcing reliable suppliers, there are a LOT of e-cig manufacturers, but only a handful that are worth dealing with.
TUC: What are some of the indicators you use when determining whether a supplier would be “worth dealing with”, or not?
Ben: There are a few factors that I initially look for.
The first being how they come across to me, if they’re willing to divulge information about the product or if they simply say “It’s the best on the market”. As a supplier you want to know the products you’re sourcing are made to a good standard.
So knowing the more technical workings of the device is quite important, for example, if they’re using wire that is not suitable for a cracker toy, let alone a VV device.
The next step would be getting a sample, most of the more questionable manufacturers will do anything they can to prevent you from getting a sample, claiming that there is no time, the product will be fine etc. probably hoping that I place an order with them only to find later on that it’s a pile of rubbish. At which point they disappear from the face of the earth.
There is an element of guess work and gut instinct, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
TUC: What advice would you give someone who is thinking of going into business for themselves, in the e-cig industry?
Ben: Make sure you do a lot of research beforehand, there are a lot of rules that need to be followed in terms of how to label e-liquid, weight and measures act, WEE compliance – the list goes on and on (in the UK anyway). Stay active within the community, they are your bread and butter and their feedback is invaluable.

I came across Electronic Cigarettes completely by chance, while browsing YouTube videos. Being a heavy smoker from a young age (14!) it captured my interest straight away. Within a week I had purchased myself an electronic cigarette and happily puffed away for around two months.
It was then that it occurred to me that the product was more than likely the future of smoking, and there was hardly anyone in the market at the time. I did a little research, contacted some Chinese factories and spent pretty much every penny I had buying initial stock, then used my basic knowledge to set up a website, with the help of information I researched from relevant forums online.
I regained the money I spent in the first two days!
A year later, the company now has 12 employees and a 10,000 sq ft warehouse. I still can’t quite believe that this time last year, I was packing orders from my bedroom!
