Scott Bonner, aka igetcha69 from E Cig Reviews is one of the most prominent reviewers of e-cigarettes to date. His straightforward and candid YouTube videos have helped hundreds, if not thousands of people in their quest to find an alternative to tobacco smoking.
I know…because Scott was one of the VERY first people that helped me on my path to vaping.
Getting to know the man across the Ocean, who by the way…blows the best smoke rings, has proven to be a humbling experience.
Scott is a man of true class, that genuinely cares about others success in their quest to quit smoking through electronic cigarettes.
Known to many as “The King of Smoke Rings”, Scott is much more than that…his reviews on everything electronic cigarettes receive an enormous amount of traffic, as he tells it like it is!
Welcome to Modding Mavericks, where I introduce you to the people behind the vaping scenes. Scott is one of the few people that began reviewing electronic cigarettes, and mods from the very beginning.
His straightforward reviews not only helped me gain the necessary knowledge to transition successfully from analogs back in October of 2011…
I know, it was such a long time ago…
Scott was also a huge inspiration for me to start InVape.com, so I am humbled, and excited to be able to learn more about the man who has helped many, many other people such as myself.
I humbly introduce you to Scott Bonner aka igetcha69 from E Cig Reviews!
Meet Scott Bonner from E Cig Reviews
Scott: I started vaping in 2008…..so quite a while now! My dad was forever trying to get me to quit smoking and one day he heard a radio show discussing electronic cigarettes. He called me up and told me to try them out, but I initially dismissed the idea as ridiculous!
But around 3 months later, I was searching the net and suddenly remembered what he told me, so thought I might as well take a look and see what they were.
I found a YouTube vid of a young Chinese guy taking a long drag and my eyes nearly popped out of my head when he exhaled a huge plume of vapour!
Straight away I then knew that I HAD to get one!
TUC: What was your very first e-cigarette?
Scott: My 1st E-Cig was one that I purchased from Intellicig…..It was the original model that they sold, and I believe it was a rebranded DSE103. But at the time, my psychological needs made it seem way too big for me to take it as a serious device to replace a real cigarette.
So a few days later, I done a bit more searching on the net, and found MirageCigarettes which sold a model that was pretty much exactly the same size as a real cigarette……I purchased that one and was absolutely over the moon with it!
TUC: Who or what do you believe has had the most influence on you in the vaping community, and why?
Scott: This is quite a hard one to answer really…..
At the time when I started vaping there was only one forum with about 100 members (ECF), and only 2 guys on YouTube doing reviews (Leaford and RatInDaHat) so there wasn’t that many people out there to actually be influenced by, lol.
So really, the only thing that I can say influences me, is the people who watch my videos and interact with me via email, YouTube messages, Twitter, Facebook, forums etc, etc…
The only reason I record my reviews is to help others, so if one day people stop watching, then I would happily ride off into the sunset never to be seen again.
TUC: What would you say is your all time favorite movie, and why?
Scott: I have many favourite movies, and I don’t think I can pick out just one. But out of all of them, I would say Shawshank Redemption, Shutter Island, i-Robot, Star Wars, Apocalypto and Braveheart are my faves of the bunch.
TUC: What are some of your favorite foods?
Scott: Ive been a strict vegetarian for the past 28 years, as I love animals way too much to eat them…however, I’m a vegetarian that doesn’t particularly like vegetables!
I tend to eat a lot of Pizza, Quorn, and Paneer and as my wife is Indian, she sorts me out with lots of tasty Chilli Paneer…which is probably my all time favourite meal, Yum!
TUC: What are some of your favorite hobbies?
Scott: Since having 2 daughters and running my own businesses, hobbies have had to take a back seat, unfortunately. But when I do get spare time, I tend to get my guitars out for a jam or play on the Xbox, plus I still play football every Sunday afternoon.
Other than that, my main passion is videography, photography and technology……..I really wish I could still be around in 500 years time to see the amazing technology that would be available then!
TUC: Which ONE word do you feel best describes you?
TUC: Which ONE word do you think your friends would use to best describe you?
TUC: What flavor e-liquid are you vaping right now?
Scott: Titan Fluid – Tobacco (my all time fave!)
TUC: What e-cigarette, or mod are you vaping right now?
Scott: Well, normally it would be a Provari and Odysseus, but right at this moment it’s an Innokin 510 battery and cartomiser combo.
TUC: If you could live anywhere in the World, where would it be, and why?
Scott: Bandos Island in the Maldives…..I had my honeymoon there back in 2004 and its quite simply paradise.
TUC: What was it that propelled you into doing e-cigarette reviews?
Scott: After I purchased that little E-Cig from Mirage, I was curious to see if anyone else had any thoughts on it, so I made a thread on the ECF forum to ask others if it was any good.
No one had heard of it, so a lady called Kate (the one with an avatar of a vaping nun) asked me if I would write a review.
I originally sat down to write out my thoughts, but decided I might as well record a review on my mobile phone instead and upload it to YouTube, as there were only those two other guys doing reviews at the time.
I then became the 1st UK reviewer on YouTube and the rest is history! lol
TUC: I am curious, as others may be, where did your username of igetcha69 come from?
Scott: Regarding my username, I used to have a friend that had a strong cockney accent (stronger than mine! lol) When explaining things to him, etc., he would reply by saying “i get cha” (as in “i understand”).
So when it came to choosing a username for my 1st ever email account, him saying “i get cha” was the 1st thing that came to mind…and the 69 part I added, as its my lucky number. 😛 lol
More About Scott Bonner
I first started smoking when I was 15 whilst working as an apprentice engineer. There were a few older guys that smoked on the firm, and I was fascinated by the smoke rings they would blow…
So one day I decided to pinch a cigarette from my Nan (without her knowing I should add!)
As I wanted to try and blow smoke rings too…I was very quickly hooked on tobacco from that point onwards…and soon became a 30 – 40 a day smoker.
It’s very sad to think that the one thing I tend to be well known for is actually the very reason I started smoking in the 1st place…but I guess that is part of being young and stupid…I guess, lol.
Anyway, fast forward 17 years, and thankfully, I discovered the wonders of electronic cigarettes…and ever since I uploaded the 1st review, my whole world now revolves around them.
Almost immediately, I started getting lots of people sending me messages via YouTube to ask me questions about electronic cigarettes, and it’s not uncommon for me to now receive up to 300 messages a day.
I answer every message I receive, so as you can imagine, it can be very time consuming to keep up with all the correspondence!
But if by replying, it helps people understand the huge benefits of switching from tobacco to vaping, then it makes it all worth while, I feel.
Im a very big believer in Karma and always try and treat others how I would like to be treated myself……I’m also a pretty shy and retiring person and am most happiest when being at my home relaxing with the wife and kids.
